His path to this breakthrough included time as a psychologist in Jining Mental Hospital to completing a Ph.D. in Genetics at Fudan University, to spending 22 years as a biologist at the famous Los Alamos National Laboratory where he authored more than 300 research papers and took part in the indispensable Human Genome Project.
